Catlins / Dunedin

Duration: 6 DAYS

Highlights: Glenfalloch Gardens, Purakanui Falls, Nugget Point Lighthouse, McLean Falls, Slope Point (southern most point of South Island), Petrified Forrest, Taiaroa Heads, Moeraki Boulders.

Day 1
D We travel south through Oamaru, stopping along the way for refreshments and for lunch. We will take a short break at the unique Moeraki Boulders before continuing on to our comfortable accommodation in Dunedin.

Day 2
BD After a leisurely breakfast, we make our Waihola Lake for a morning cuppa. We pass the shoe fence on our way to Balclutha where we stop for lunch then on to the spectacular Catlins where we are based for the next three nights.

Day 3 & 4
BD Over the next 2 days, we will explore this unspoiled, wind swept ‘nature’s paradise’ as we visit Nugget Point Lighthouse, the magnificent Purakanui Falls, Cannibal Bay, Curio Bay, Surat Bay, the Petrified Forest (one of the worlds finest), Slope Point, McLean Falls and Jacks Blowhole. We are almost guaranteed to see seals, sea lions and sea elephants in their natural habitat and there is an option of an additional cost evening tour (approx $45) to see New Zealand’s rare and endangered yellow-eyed penguins.

Day 5
BD Today we leave behind the beautiful Catlins to return to our overnight accommodation in Dunedin. We will do the scenic drive to Taiaroa Heads and try to catch sight of Albatross. Then we will meander through the beautiful Glenfalloch Gardens. We also stop of at Happy Hens.

Day 6
B Homeward bound, stopping along the way for morning and afternoon tea and lunch –arriving home between 5.00pm and 6.30pm.

D = Dinner (main meal) provided (please note any drinks will be at your own expense)
Morning cuppa and bikkies provided from the bus each day.
